Ian sez…
Some of you may know I recently lost a very, very dear friend Rachel Razbully
In a lifetime before my writing world became Morose’s twisted version of Oxford, I co-wrote a sci-fi comedy novel with Rachel called Space Trash.
Long story cut short, the book disappeared for approximately 30 years until about a year ago when I discovered a Microsoft Word 95 version of the first half of the book and weeks later found a paper version of the missing parts. I had to buy a USB 3.5” floppy drive, just to get to see it again!
I had a lovely conversation with Rach, when I was able to tell her our baby had been found! I asked if I could get the two halves together would she like me to get it published – “Ja Ja!” – those who know Rachel…
And if it’s a success, would you be interested in writing a sequel? – “Ooh! Ja Ja, Fred” – I was always Fred to her – long story.
So I began the long process of converting Word 95 into the up to date version and typing up the paper pages and finally, after a long process, on the 11th May, I had it all typed up. It still needed to be tidied and proofread but it was in good shape. ‘I must call Rach this week’ I told myself, to update her, she’ll be so pleased.
I had already sent her previously a copy of the cover that my great friend Jon Dolan had designed for the book, she loved it.
My sister gave me the terrible news that she had died suddenly on the 10th May. The day before Space Trash had finally been put back together. Heartbroken doesn’t cover it.
After talking to Ben, and via Ben Jess – Rachel’s two children – we’ve decided to publish – it’s what Rach wanted – and in Rach’s memory for the profits to go to one of Rachel’s preferred charities (front runners currently Amnesty International or Alzheimer’s Association.
Thanks for bearing with me on a very emotional message.
Is Space Trash coming out – “Ja Ja!”
I’ve got to finish my work on it, but I’ll keep you posted
Meanwhile here’s Jon Dolan’s wonderful cover: –
