The 1% Club *update*

Fun and games last year!

I was a contestant on the recording of the first episode of Lee Mack’s new Saturday night prime time game show. ITV’s The 1% Club

And, in amongst banter between myself and Lee I managed to get in a plug for a certain series of books!

The show goes out in April (my episode is on the 16th), and we’ll be running a promotion to coincide with it.

Just think, you’ll be able to tell people you knew our books before they became infamous!

  2. I was in the filming for the first episode! I spoke to Lee Mack as well, were you part of filming for the pilot or the first episode?

  3. Hi, I also filmed for the 1% club
When I was there filming it was on the Wednesday, and they mentioned it was the “press release” episode.
I don’t know if anyone else has received their airing dates but I’ve not heard anything yet, if anyone else was on my day and they know which date we have please will you let me know 🙂

  4. My wife and I filmed the final episode (I think!) and thoroughly enjoyed it. Lee Mack spoke to me saying,” Look at him rubbing his hands. He cant wait to get his hands on the money.” What I was doing was that I cheered, stomped and clapped so hard when Lee came on that my hands were hot and sore lol.

  5. I’m a VERY big fan of Lee Mack but have been agoraphobic and having panic attacks for the last 30 years. So I doubt very much that I could go.
Would their be a way to get Lee’s autograph please?

    1. Hi Lisa, sorry you’re very much through to the wrong place. This is a promotion website for a series of comedy books. I just happen to have been a contestant on one episode that was aired a few weeks ago, and I managed to get a plug in for my books, I have no connection to Lee.

  6. Hi, I’m recording an episode next week, I have a few questions if you don’t mind answering. I remember you plugging your book – very funny, good work that man!

It’s nothing significant, i’m just wondering if you can use a pen & paper, or if the questions get read out before your 30 seconds starts?

Also, if I understand it right, the questions are done with dimmed lights and silence, rather than Lee’s banter – is that right?

Sorry, that’s lots of questions. I’d really appreciate it if you have time to reply.

    1. Hi Andy, you don’t really have time for pen and paper, like you see on the show Lee asks the question and you have the time the music plays to record your answer on the tablet and press confirm.
Yes, you’re right about the dimmed lights and silence. The question is recorded twice, first time for you to answer in silence, then again for Lee’s banter, while you look like you’re working it out behind him!
Hope that helps and good luck! Let me know how you get on, when they let you!

      1. Thanks very much for getting back to me, I see the tight time constraints, but, I’ve been practicing the anagram questions and scribbling down the letters in a jumble on paper really helps. So wondered if I would be allowed to do that?

Or, is the answer tablet ‘writable on’ as in can I scribble things on it, or just type and tap the correct answer in multiple choice questions?

Many many thanks again for getting back to me.

        1. I don’t remember any ban on pen and paper, you’d probably have to check with the studio people. You wouldn’t be able to use the tablet for your notes I don’t think. No harm in asking them about pen and paper!

  7. I remember the episode with you on! Good work haha.

How does it work with spelling or answers that aren’t simple yes / no or A/B/C/D? Does someone verify the answer is correct? E.g. if you said these vowels are in the correct order rather than “in alphabetical order”, would that still be correct?

Any other tips for contestants? I’m going on the new series! Thanks

    1. Hi Jamie. We didn’t have anyone disputing an outcome so I’m not really sure how it works as it’s judged out of sight. They did introduce us to an adjudicator, so I guess she had final say.
Good luck on the show, be ready for a few hours of fun. Come back and let us know how you get on
